Build Management Features

Doktool has now been extended to with powerful new features that allow you

to compare any object in any layer of two AX application environments (e.g Test and Live) and objects in the Version Control System in AX2009

  • Version Control System (VCS) support
  • Object compare feature
  • Compare objects from separate AX Application environments

Version Control System (VCS) support

Users can document (compare) application objects not only from standard layers, but also from Version Control System (VCS) database. Indicate the version to document and the version to compare against to get application object versions compared and documented.

Compare objects feature

Users can setup layers for all objects selected in the AOT by clicking the  'Compare mode' checkbox. By clicking new button 'Object compare setup' users can get the whole list of the selected objects from the AOT and make individual compare setup for each particular object including versions of the object from the Version control system database

Compare AX application environments

Allows the user documenting (comparing) application objects from different environments by using 'old-layers' standard feature. Just add your second environment '*.aod' files to the '%Application%\Old' folder and click 'Is old' check box to indicate old layer to be used.

  • Changed code support
  • Menus support
  • License codes support
  • Extended data types array elements and relations
  • Full object properties list

Profile parameters

From now user is able to create several different profiles with unique parameters for different purposes. E.g. for developers - specifying as much parameters as possible and for end-users specifying only capturing form and report designs. It is also possible to predefine query for filtering Application objects. Than it is simple just to choose predefined profile parameters on Generate documentation dialog. Each profile can be easily copied with all specified parameters for subsequent modification.

Parameters page

New page called Parameters is added to the Microsoft word documentation. On this page all the parameters specified in on the Profile parameters form and on the Generate documentation dialog is printed. So the user can easily see and store explanations for his documentation.

Changed code support

In layer compare mode, code which was changed or added on the target layer will be printed in the New/Changed column in the Microsoft word documentation. This option can be switched off not to overwhelm the document.

Menus support

Menu objects support has been added to the Microsoft word documentation. From now on it's possible to print user interface changes only, specifying predefined profile User on the Generate dialog form and documenting only forms, reports and menus.

License codes support

License code objects support has been added to the Microsoft word documentation.

Extended data types array elements and relations

Extended data types objects support is extended with array elements printing and relations printing in Microsoft word documentation.

Doktool Demo

Using the Doktool™ couldn't be simpler. Select the project you want to document from ...... and right click - the generate documentation button appears in the add-Ins menu.

Doktool™ also allows you to specify the layers you want to document. You can also compare layers to each other and filter the reports by object type, developer, and date. User profiles allow default parameter settings to be applied to each profile.

Once the area for documentation has been specified Doktool™ will run and automatically convert the Microsoft AX into word documentation or Visio charting to easily and accurately display the hierarchical relationships between the various objects.

Doktool™ produced word documentation

Visio diagrams clearly show the relationships between the objects.

Finally the Doktool™ can audit existing add-ons and modules by clearly showing additions and amendments to existing code in separate colour coded elements. As shown on this screenshot amended code is highlighted in green and new code is in blue.
